Data File 1. What makes you Human? 

We find you humans to be interesting specimens.
​In order to learn what it means to be human we need you to undergo a human scan. This will help us begin to understand it means to be human. 

Follow the steps below to commence scan. 


The Human Scan 


Read the entire instructions before starting the timer below. 

Step 1.

Take out your sketchbook.
Place in front of you. 



Step 2.

Sit up Straight. 

Step 3.

Close your eyes, for 1 minute. 
Using timer below.


Then what? 


Imagine you have never  felt your body before. What do you notice inside and out? Notice your breath,  going in and out. Notice your hands, what do they feel like, how do they bend?  Note textures, sensations. 

If a thought comes to you, thats okay, let it be there, continue to focus on your breathing.

Initiate Human Scan

Use the timer below to measure 1 minute. Keep your eyes closed, back straight, and observe. 

Post Scan

Using your sketchbook illustrate your human scan experience. This may include key words, doodles, a comic.
​How you choose to show your experience is up to you. We ask that you utilize at least one sketchbook page. Colors, medium, collage, stickers, utilize whatever inspires and informs your art practice. 

Partner with another human in your class and describe your experience and discuss what you noticed. In addition discuss what other things, characteristics or concepts make someone human?
  ​Record bits of these ideas in your sketchbook as well.  Take a picture of your sketchbook page(s) and submit to Googleclassroom.
